Hamburger "steaks" With Onion Gravy

Came up with this after trying to figure out what to do with some ground beef that needed to be cooked. I paired this with orzo, but would be equally good with mashed potatoes. -- posted by nsomniak6 more...

Cebollas Curtidas (Mexican Pickled Onions)

Posted for Zaar World Tour 2005. Pickled onions are served alongside meat dishes all over Mexico, but you can serve them with anything you want, like me when I make this recipe! Will last in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. The lime juice, zest and grapefruit make something called sour orange juice. I've never heard of it, can't buy it in the store and I wouldn't want to experiment with regular orange juice to make it! The beet juice is used to turn the onions red(der). Serving size is a guess. Chilling time is included in cooking time. From a special issue of Saveur, The Best of Tex-Mex Cooking. -- posted by Kumquat the Cat's friend more...

Nachos Agrios (Sour Cream Nachos)

Posted for Zaar World Tour 2005. I thought I'd never post a recipe I'd never make, but I think this is it. I DO only post recipes that sound very yummy, like this one. It's high in fat, so it's for those of you who think you can handle it. It sounds unbelievably good. I love nachos, who doesn't? From a special edition of Saveur, The Best of Tex-Mex Cooking. From San Antonio's Los Barrios restaurant, it's presumably "the most outstanding appetizer there is." Adding the water comment is my own addition. -- posted by Kumquat the Cat's friend more...

Perro Salado (Tequila Salty Dog)

Submitted for Zaar World Tour 2005. This is a Tex-Mex version of the salty dog. If you have access to a sweet Texas red grapefruit, like Ruby-Sweets or Rio Stars, then it's recommended you use it in this recipe. From a special edition of Saveur, The Best of Tex-Mex Cooking. I have not tried this yet. -- posted by Kumquat the Cat's friend more...

Tabbouleh (Or Couscous or Quinoa) With Grilled Vegetables

Grilled vegetables add a layer of rich, complex flavors to the popular Middle Eastern salad of bulgur and herbs. (Option: add 2 cups of chicken) Suggestion: Serve with Flank Steak with Coffee-Peppercorn Marinade...

Note: I used the couscous (from a box with seasoning) that was in my pantry instead. (It only needed to be covered for 5 min.) Next, the bulk quinoa I still have. Then I'll get some bulgur. This recipe takes a while and looks long only because there's so much to grill, but it's easy! (Just chop and grill veggies. Repeat. Boil water, add grains, and cover.) I also added yellow bell peppers. -- posted by Gastronomic Foodie more...

Cheese and Garlic Treats (Canine)

Found on net. Make sure you use garlic POWDER not garlic SALT. Salt is very bad for dogs. -- posted by Saturn more...

Brandade De Morue

There are a few variations on this classic from the south of France, generally associated with the ville of Nimes. While the french will sometimes bake this as a dinner dish, I love it as a spread on bread for breakfast. -- posted by Comedie more...
